The variety of fabric options can make dress shopping confusing. Here is a description of the different types of fabrics found on Golden Asp.
Satin. The ultimate shine is created by satin. It is a heavy material with a glossy surface that is formed with a weave using fabrics such as silk,nylon, or polyester. Tulle. If the dress has a full, poofy skirt, it is most likely made of tulle. This fabric looks like netting and is usually made out of silk, nylon, or rayon. Opt for a tulle dress if you’re going for a princess look.
Chiffon. This is a transparent material that is used in layers to create a flowing effect. Chiffon has a soft and delicate look, and is usually made of silk or rayon.
Jersey. Jersey is a lightweight fabric that is extremely elastic, made from a combination of wool, cotton, and synthetic fibers. It is considered a great material for dresses because it is stretchy and flattering for any body type.
Organza. This fabric has the look and feel of a combination of chiffon and tulle. It is sheer and shiny like chiffon, but has a stiff structure like tulle. Organza is used mostly for overlays, skirts, and sleeves on gowns.
Polyester. Polyester is a man-made material that has better wrinkle resistance and color retention than natural fabrics. Although it has a less natural feel than other fabrics, it can be spun with other fabrics for a different look.
Taffeta. A crisp, smooth look is created with taffeta. It is a high-end fabric, woven with silk and synthetic fibers that is considered perfect for Homecoming dresses.
